Day 1

You will be greeted by our trustee local driver from either the Colombo Airport  and thereafter the first stop for the day would be the famous Elephant orphanage in Pinnawala.

It is a 25 acre coconut property that is a conservation camp for Sri Lankan elephants. Here you will witness baby elephants being fed by a feeding bottle as soon as you enter. This is a lovely site for tourists. This elephant orphanage also houses the crippled elephants that can’t take care of themselves. Special mahouts are trained to take care of these ‘gentle giants’ who are sometimes orphaned. This orphanage was started in 1975 and has birthed over 20 new-born calves in its premises. Some elephants even have had the opportunity to witness their own grand children being born in the past few decades.

Witness as these beautiful creatures are fed at 9.15am, 12.15pm & 5.00pm, or when they are bathed – twice a day at 10.00am and 02.00pm respectively. This is an experience that is sure to leave you mesmerized for a life time!

Thereafter, you will continue to Dambulla.

Visit the famous Dambulla Rock cave temples that were built by the Sri Lankan king Walagambahu in the 1st Century B.C.This is a world heritage site and is considered to be one of the most impressive cave temples in Sri Lanka. These cave temples comprises of over 2000 sq ft of beautifully painted walls and ceilings and over 150 statues of Lord Buddha , the largest being over 14 meters long and carved out of rock.

After this, you will be taken to Sigiriya, where you will stay the night at the beautiful Hotel.

     

Day 2  

Sigiriya / Sigiriya Rock / Minneriya / Sigiriya

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the Sigiriya hotel on day 2 and then proceed to climb Sigiriya – the 5th century rock fortress.

This famous rock fortress is known to be a world famous heritage site that was built by Sri Lanka King Kashyapa in 477-495AD. This beautiful monument is also known as the ‘Lion Rock’ and is a citadel of unusual beauty in Sri Lanka. It stands 200 meters tall and was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. There is a moat, rampart and broad gardens including the renowned water gardens at the base of the rock.

You can also see the beautifully painted frescos, known as the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya on your way to the top of the rock. These frescos are said to be painted in earth pigments on plaster and are definitely a sight for art lovers.

In the evening you will go on a night safari in Minneriya.

The Minneriya National park is located alongside the vast, renovated Minneriya rainwater reservoir and expands to a vast 8800 hectares. Minneriya offers a great sightseeing experience for nature lovers. In October you can see the famous gathering of wild elephants at this park, as this is considered to be the meeting place for these ‘gentle giants’. This park is also home to many other forms of wild animals, reptiles and birds.

Finally, you will return to the Sigiriya Hotel and retire for the night.

     

Day 3 

Sigiriya / Matale / Kandy

After breakfast at the hotel, the first stop for the day is Matale.

Matale is in the Central Province of Sri Lanka and is an agricultural zone due to its remarkable contribution of main crops to the Island. From tea & vegetables to rubber and spices, Matale is the main city these crops are cultivated in. Today, Matale has many stories woven around spices. Step into the spice world, where you will be warmly welcomed by staff at the spice garden. Observe the process of how spices are made and also learn about their therapeutic values while enjoying a refreshing cup of herbal tea while you’re at it!

In Kandy, you will begin with a city tour. Kandy was the last capital of the kings of Sri Lanka and was ruled by the last King – King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe before the British came into power in 1815. Kandy is known as a world heritage site and is famous for its rich heritage and spectacular local culture. The most significant highlight in Kandy would be the famous ‘Temple of the Tooth’ also called ‘Sri Dalada Maligawa’. Other attractions would be the Kandy Lake and its forever buzzing town. Wonder on a stroll across this small lakeside town and come across the Kandy City Center nestled amongst the misty hills. This building features many worldwide brands and is an arts & crafts centre, shopping mall, and even has a gem museum and lapidary in it.

Enjoy a beautiful cultural show in the evening before heading to the hotel for the night.

 The family will be retiring for the night at a hotel there.

     

Day 4 

Kandy / Nuwara Eliya

Once again, indulge in a healthy breakfast at the hotel in Kandy Thereafter you will be transferred to Nuwara Eliya.

You will be taken to visit a tea factory in Nuwara Eliya. Observe the beautiful green hills and lush valleys of this enchanting city. In the tea factory, you will be able to observe how tea is processed and graded for both local and foreign markets. Take in the wonderful aromas of fresh tea being prepared while you indulge in a hot cup of pure Ceylon tea while you are here.

After that you will go on a city tour of Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya is known for its cool climate and amazing scenery by both locals and tourists as well. It is also home to one of the finest 18 hole golf courses in South Asia. This town plays a major role in the country’s tea industry at this is the main place where tea is produced. Sri Lanka’s tallest mountain the ‘Piduruthalagala’ (8282 feet) is also here.

You also have the opportunity to rent a bike and take a relaxing bike ride along the banks of the famous Gregory Lake.

After your tour of this misty town, you will then be transferred to hotel, Nuwara Eliya

 

       

Day 5  

Nuwara Eliya / Kitulgala / Bentota

Upon having breakfast at the hotel, you will then be transferred from Nuwara Eliya to Bentota, via Kitulgala.

En-route you will witness the beautiful St. Clair & Devon Waterfalls that cascades down in the most magical manner. It is definitely a site for nature lovers.

Sri Lanka’s broadest river – the Kelani Ganga flows through Kitulgala. This place is famous for white water rafting and other thrilling water sports and activities. It is also the place where the famous Oscar winning movie – ‘Bridge on the River Kwai” was filmed.

After Kitulgala, the final stop for the day is Bentota. Here you will check into the Hotel for the night.

     

Day 6  

Bentota

Day 6 is devoted for you love-birds to spend at the beautiful beach of Bentota. Take the full day to enjoy the bliss of one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka.

Bentota is known for the romantic settings carved by both the river and sea. This beautiful setting is utter bliss and will leave you with many memories once you return to your homeland from your holiday in Sri Lanka. Take a quick dip in the ocean or enjoy some amazing water sports such as jet skiing, surfing, diving or even body boarding.  Finally witness the beautiful and enchanting sun as it sets and creates the most beautiful view ever.

You also have the option of taking a boat ride to the Madu River or visit the turtle hatchery & mask factory in Ambalangoda. You can visit the Moonstone mine in Meetiyagoda.

After breakfast, you will proceed to Colombo

This buzzing city used to be the country’s capital city, it now one of the cleanest cities in Sri Lanka. Check out the crystal white Race Course – that used to be the horse racing hub in 1893 but is now furnished with the latest clothes boutiques, restaurants and tea shops. You could even travel to Pettah and witness the famous ‘floating market’ for a new kind of shopping experience, or the famous Colombo Port City which is an offshore city featuring parks, commercial complexes and even a F1 track. If you head towards Bauddhaloka Mawatha, you would come across the “Arcade”.

This building features the best designer branded shopping boutiques, souvenir shops, restaurants and coffee shops. One of its unique aspects is the ‘walk-over fish tank’ that has made this spot one of the trendiest and coolest hangout spots in Colombo.

Indulge in a chilled beer at the Dutch Hospital that overlooks fancy windows showcasing the best of fashion, jewelry & handicraft brands. The Gangarama temple is also another famous tourist attraction that you could visit.

You will finally be taken back to the airport as your Sri Lanka holiday finally comes to an end.
