Day 1  

Airport or Beach Hotel / Pinnawala / Kandalama

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our trustee local driver from either the airport or from the Negombo hotel, who will take you on the most memorable journey of your life. The first destination for the day would be Pinnawala, where you will visit the famous Elephant Orphanage.

This elephant orphanage was first established in 1975 and was said to have just seven elephants at the time. Some of these elephants are fortunate enough to witness their grandchildren being brought up in the same environment as they did.  The original objective of this orphanage was majorly inclined towards tourism, but thereafter it became more of a conservation camp for these elephants and with the help of many local and foreign elephant experts, the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage started a scientific captive breeding for elephants.  It’s success lead to the attention of many famous scientists and many books have been written on this orphanage. Some have even filmed and documented it in several languages.[/expand]

After experiencing this wonderful place, you will be transferred to Kandalama where you will be able to relax for the night after a scrumptious dinner at the beautiful Heritance Kandalama hotel.


Day 2  

Kandalama / Sigiriya / Kandalama

Start your day off with a healthy and hearty breakfast at the Kandalama hotel in preparation for climbing the world famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress – which will be the main activity for the day.

[expand title=”Read More…” swaptitle=” “]This world-famous rock fortress is known as the “Lion Rock” and was said to be built in the 5th Century by Sri Lankan King Kashyapa. It stands 200 meters tall and is known to be a famous world heritage. Witness the beautiful frescos paintings of the ‘Heavenly Maidens of Sigiriya’ on your way to the top of the rock. These frescos are said to be painted in earth pigments on plaster and are definitely a treat for art lovers.[/expand]

Once you have descended this mighty rock, you will be transferred back to Kandalama where you will be able to go bird watching in the surrounding area.

[expand title=”Read More…” swaptitle=” “]The 55 acre forest around the Kandalama tank is a host to many medicinal plants and various bird life. It is said that over 90 varieties of birds including migrants – babbler, blue flycatcher, oriole, paradise flycatcher, warbler, wagtail, barbet, bee-eater, Brahmin kite, owl, teal and even pelicans, reside in this jungle.[/expand]

End the day with a lovely meal and an overnight stay at the Heritance Kandalama hotel.


Day 3  

Kandalama / Dambulla / Matale / Kandy

Wake up to a scrumptious breakfast on day 3 at the Heritance Kandalama hotel and thereafter we will take you to Dambulla.

In Dambulla, you will visit the Dambulla rock temple which was built in the 1st century B.C by King Walgambahu. This too is a world heritage site and is definitely one of the most impressive cave temples in Sri Lanka. It comprises of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of beautifully painted walls and ceilings. It also contains many large images of Lord Buddha, the largest being carved out of rock and over 14 meters long.

After witnessing these caves, you will be transferred to Matale. Here you will visit the spice gardens. We will show you how spices are grown and processed and a cookery demonstration will be arranged as well for you to see how these spices are used in our everyday cooking.[/expand]

Our last stop for the day is the city of Kandy. Here, you will relish in a delicious dinner of local cuisine and have an overnight stay at the Earls Regency Hotel.

Day 4  

 Kandy / Knuckles / Kandy

Upon having a delicious breakfast at the Kandy – Earls Regency Hotel, we will then escort you to the beautiful Knuckles mountain range.

This beautiful mountain range was given its name due to its unique formation. It is said to resemble that of the knuckles of a clenched fist. These mountains loom 6,112 feet above the Dumbara Valley and its surrounding areas have been declared as strict natural reserves. It is said that a large variety of plants that are not found in any other part of the country, are found here in this area.[/expand]

Once you have explored this beautiful mountain range, you will be transferred back to the Earls Regency hotel where you will dine in comfort overlooking the beautiful hills of Kandy before you retire for the night.


Day 5  

Kandy / Nuwara Eliya / Kandapola

Start off your day with a delicious breakfast at the Earls Regency Kandy hotel. Thereafter be transferred to Nuwara Eliya.

Here you will go on a city tour and enjoy the beautiful sceneries and cooling climate of this enchanting city. This is said to be Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resort and is also the most central place for producing Sri Lankan tea.

Most of the world’s best tea is produced in Nuwara Eliya. Sri Lanka’s highest mountain – Piduruthalagala is located here and stands 8282 feet tall. You can also check out one of the most finest 18 hole golf courses in South Asia, which is also located here.[/expand]

Once your city tour is complete we will transfer you to Kandapola, where you will retire for the night at the Heritance Tea Factory hotel.

Day 6  

 Kandapola / Horton plains / Kandapola

Enjoy a healthy breakfast at the Heritance Tea Factory and thereafter be transferred to Horton Plains.

Horton Plains is located on a high windswept saddle at about 2134 meters above sea level. The plains are a beautiful sight with misty grasslands and ice-cold rivulets. You can proceed to “World’s End” that is considered to have the finest view point in Sri Lanka. This point is said to drop about 4,000 feet below and hence, got its name due to this fact. Walk about 14 kms and you can see the beautiful Backer’s falls. This park shelters animals such as Sambur, Leopard and endemic Bear Monkeys. It is said that this area is a home for over 20 endemic bird species including Sri Lanka’s Whistling Thrush, Orange-billed Babbler and Yellow-eared Bulbul.[/expand]

Once you are done witnessing this beautiful area, you will be transferred back to Kandapola. You will then enjoy a scrumptious dinner before heading off to bed at the Heritance Tea Factory – Kandapola.


Day 7  

Kandapola / Udawalawe

You will wake up to a hearty breakfast to begin the day at the Heritance Tea Factory. After breakfast we will take you to Udawalawe where you will go on a special Safari. You will be transferred from the park entrance to the campsite in special safari vehicles.

[expand title=”Read More…” swaptitle=” “]Enjoy a tasty lunch at the campsite in the beautiful outdoors. In the evening, you will leave for the night safari around the Udawalawe National Park. This park is situated in a very dry zone in Sri Lanka. It falls between the Udawalawe reservoir and the Walawe River and is surrounded by the scenic beauty of the mountain range that winds endlessly on the Balangoda, Kalthota and Haputale escarpments. This park is mainly famous for its elephants, but apart from that you can also see varieties of other wild animals such as spotted deer, grey Langur, water buffalos, jackal and even many bird species such as serpent eagles, hawk eagles, white bellied sea eagles, black capped bulbuls, Malabar pied horn bills, white necked storks, open bills, white ibis have made this jungle their home. The park also houses many peacocks that roam around in large numbers and are definitely a treat for the eyes.[/expand]

You will return to the campsite once the safari is complete and enjoy a delicious dinner, before retiring to bed in one of their luxury mobile camps onsite.


Day 8  

 Udawalawe / Airport or Beach Hotel

An early rise is encouraged in order to enjoy an early morning safari on your last day at the Udawalawe Park; this includes an amazing bird watching experience that is bound to leave you with unforgettable memories in Sri Lanka. You will return to the campsite for breakfast and thereafter be transferred to either the Airport or the Negombo Beach Hotel.
